Did you know, that apparently, today is Johnny Appleseed's birthday?
So of course, we should feature some incredibly tasty apple recipes today right? Well we thought so too! I love early fall and it's abundance of apples, yum!
Perfect Apple Pie
2 (9") pie crusts (or the recipe that follows)
5-6 cups thinly sliced, peeled apples
3/4 cup sugar
2 T flour
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp nutmeg
1 T lemon juice
- Heat over to 425 degrees.
- In a large bowl, combine apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg and lemon juice. Mix lightly.
- Bake 40-50 minutes until crust is golden brown and juices are bubbling out. By the way... you should probably put a cookie sheet on the rack below your pie to catch those delicious bubbling juices.
6-7 Tb cold water
1 tsp vinegar
Blend flour, salt and shortening with a fork or pastry blender until crumbly.
Mix egg, water and vinegar in a small bowl, then work into the flour mixture with your hands until a ball begin to form.
Shape into a ball, then cut in half.
You now have dough for your top and bottom crust.
