Take Me There Thursday

Welcome to the first 'Take Me There Thursday!' I am very excited to get started - I have so many locations and restaurants in mind....

...but this first month we will focus on Oahu. (Saying Oahu requires a pause and a hopeful sigh immediately after. Honest. Try it. Say Oahu - you paused and pondered didn't you? A little sigh escaped as you saw yourself on the beach?) Oahu is one of the Hawaiian islands - home to Honolulu, Waikiki beach and the infamous North Shore.

In 2005, I spent a glorious week on the island of Oahu... let me introduce you...

Hanauma Bay

We snorkeled here & it was amazing. I don't want to go all surfer on you - but dude, it was totally awesome. Dude.

Flora - Hibiscus Flower

The natural landscape of Hawaii is beyond words. With rocky volcano remnants, striking flowers, bamboo, waterfalls, rain forests, the constant smell of fresh plumeria....

This was taken right before we began our hike to the top of Diamond Head. Soon I will write a post describing our challenging and hilarious-to-bystanders trek up the gorgeous dormant volcano...

(pause, ponder and sigh)

The first restaurant on our journey through Oahu is Cheeseburger in Paradise. (1st - this is not a part of the Jimmy Buffet Cheeseburgers in Paradise chain.) When I think of our culinary experiences in Oahu this is the first to come to mind. Sadly, however, I don't have any pictures of Cheeseburger from our trip - this I found online, click the photo for the link.

With a rock'n'roll / Hawaiian decor and wonderful view of Waikiki beach, Cheeseburger in Paradise is a wonderful restaurant for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Or drinks. Or all of the above. The windows shown in this photo span 2 sides of the restaurant and allow that refreshing ocean breeze to flow. (No worries about flies in Hawaii.)

The meal of choice - Macadamia Nut Cakes. We ate breakfast here several mornings throughout the week - can you blame us? The view? The breeze? .... 3 delicious, fluffy pancakes with macadamia nuts in the batter, a side of fresh Hawaiian pineapple and a steaming cup of Kona coffee.... I think it's time for a pause, ponder and sign again people....

The burgers are also very popular and look fabulous!

Waikiki Beach, Honolulu, Oahu - Hawaii!

{Be sure to check back next Thursday as we visit another restaurant in Oahu!}
