Movie Monday

Return to Me{Rated PG for mild language and occasional innuendo}

This is one of my absolute favorite go-to movies. Go-to for a great chick flick, a must for any slumber party, go-to for a good cry, a good laugh, a good pick-me-up.... even a go-to for background music/sound while cleaning house!

The storyline {I heavily debated to even reveal the plot of the movie; but since it is established within the first 10 minutes I decided to go ahead. If you want to be completely surprised; skip the following paragraph & immediately go rent the movie!} revolves around Bob Rueland, played by David Duchovny, as he deals with the death of his high-school sweetheart wife & eventually begins dating again. While on a blind date he meets Grace, a heart transplant survivor & waitress played by Minnie Driver.... & that's all I'm saying :) With a wonderful supporting cast of Bonnie Hunt (co-writer & director), James Belushi, Robert Loggia, & Carroll O' Connor in his last role, this movie makes me cry almost every time I see it.... Another character to mention is the music - which plays an important part. An amazing soundtrack full of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin & Joey Gian.

The Restaurant

O'Reilly's, the Italian/Irish restaurant where character Grace is a waitress, is actually restaurant "Twin Anchors" located in Old Town Chicago. Twin Anchors is one of the oldest restaurants in Chicago having opened in 1932 & is actually very famous for it's ribs! {No Chicken Vesuvius...or Swiss water}

According to the restaurant's website - the building itself dates back to 1881, & as far back as 1910 a tavern has held the location. Through prohibition, it was a speakeasy called 'Tanta Lee Soft Drinks" in business for the 'thirsty' in the Chicago area. Twin Anchors has had many famous visitors throughout the years including Frank Sinatra, Josh Groban, Joan Cusack & John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd who reportedly came in wearing their Blues Brothers suits...

An interesting note about Twin Anchors... a scene from The Dark Knight was filmed at the restaurants bar...

I hope you have enjoyed this glimpse at one of my favorite movies... I would love to hear feedback on Return to Me & Twin Anchors!
